OSI Awards

Four ways the Society honours its community

The Optical Society of India confers awards at every level of a research career — from a student's first conference poster to a lifetime of contribution to Indian optics. Each award is adjudged by a committee drawn from the Executive Council and the wider membership.

Highest honour

The OSI Award

Conferred once every two years

The OSI Award, the highest Award of the OSI, will be conferred to individuals having outstanding contributions to Optics research and/or education. It will be conferred once in every two years.


Criteria
  • An Indian or of Indian origin

  • Member of the OSI

  • Associated in some way or other, with optics teaching/research in India.

An OSI Award Committee constituting of the President and Secretary of the OSI (ex-officio members) and two senior members of the OSI (to be nominated by the EC) will be formed for the purpose of selection of the award.
Doctoral

OSI Best Thesis Awards

Up to three awards each year · ₹10,000 and a certificate

Thesis presentations in Annual OSI symposium will be restricted to students who have currently submitted Ph. D. thesis. Committee will adjudge the work and a maximum of three best thesis will be awarded a certificate and a cash award of Rs.10,000/- each.


Criteria
  • Two page write-up of the thesis work

  • A list of publications

  • Endorsement by the Ph.D. Supervisor

Nominations are submitted by the student to the Convenor of the OSI Annual Symposium.
Students

OSI Students Presentation Awards

Awarded at every OSI conference

These awards are reserved for best students' presentations, oral and poster during OSI conferences and are in the form of cash prize and certificate.


Criteria
  • A cash prize and a certificate for each awardee

Memorial award

Best Ph.D. Thesis Award in Optical Metrology

In memory of Prof. M. P. Kothiyal

Recognises outstanding doctoral work in the field of Optical Metrology, presented in memory of Prof. M. P. Kothiyal.


Criteria
  • Two page write-up of the thesis work

  • A list of publications

  • Endorsement by the Ph.D. Supervisor for nomination in Optical Metrology

Nominations are submitted by the student to the Convenor of the OSI Annual Symposium.

Thesis and presentation nominations go to the Convenor of the OSI Annual Symposium. All other correspondence may be addressed to the General Secretary.
